Debutante Cotillion

Historically, a cotillion was characterized as an elaborate, formal dance. In recent years, it is most often recognized as a formal presentation of young ladies referred to as debutantes. These young ladies are presented to society after they have developed social etiquette skills and acquired a sense of responsibility and achievement that prepares them to master life's challenges.

As ladies of Ivy Vine Charities, Incorporated, this concept is embraced as an opportunity to introduce young females to society through a cultural experience. The program is designed to develop and enhance their personal, educational, cultural, spiritual and social lives as young ladies.

New for 2012! We are accepting application for Junior Debutantes (currently in the 8th or 9th grade).

Invitation to Participate

Debutante Cotillion Ball
The Debutante Cotillion culminates in a Formal Ball during which the Prospective Debutante makes her debut to society in formal evening attire, presented by her father or father figure, and escorted by the gentleman of her choice also in formal attire. The presentation is followed by a formal dinner and dance to celebrate this major life milestone.

The 2012 Debutante Cotillion Ball will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012.

Afternoon Tea and Luncheon
The 2012 Afternoon Tea Honoring Women's History Month is the kick-off event for the Cotillion Season. It is one of the most sentimental activities of the Cotillion Season. The 2012 Afternoon Tea will be held on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at the Bethesda Marriott. Click here for additional information.

Cultural Activities
The purpose of these activities is to develop and enhance the cultural awareness of the prospective debutante.

Workshop Retreat
A Retreat is held during the summer as an enrichment program that focuses on team building exercises, workshops and activities geared towards bringing fulfillment to the best of what already exists in the Prospective Debutantes.

Community Service Activity
During the Cotillion Season, the Prospective Debutantes participate in a Community Service Activity in the Washington Metropolitan Area based on the needs of the community. The group brainstorms about ideas that are feasible with the allotted time, and decides collectively which endeavor to implement.

Past Service Activities include: serving meals at the Shepherd's Table, collecting and sending school supplies to South Africa, and tutoring and mentoring younger students.

Rehearsals
In the fall of the year, the Prospective Debutantes begin to rehearse for the culminating event for the Cotillion, the Debutante Ball. It is at this event that a Prospective Debutante becomes a full-fledged Debutante. Since parents and escorts are also participants in the presentation, they too will rehearse as the big day gets closer. During rehearsals, introductions, waltzes and ballroom configurations are practiced until perfected for the major event.

Corporate Sponsorship
All contributions support scholarships, community service activities, and local, national and international contributions. Corporations are encouraged to contribute to this worthwhile effort throughout the year.
