Annual Walkathon for Diabetes and Scholarships

The 5K Walkathon for Diabetes and Scholarships is an annual
event that raises funds to support the American Diabetes Associationís
research and treatment programs, in addition to assisting students in
the Metropolitan Washington, DC area with educational scholarships.
This walk is non-competitive and is family oriented. While this disease
affects over 20 million children and adults in the United States, the
statistics are more staggering for African Americans and serve as a
catalyst in supporting this worthy cause. Compared to the general
population, African Americans are disproportionately affected by
diabetes.

Debutante Cotillion
The Biennial Debutante Cotillion is among the most successful
fundraising events. It is a year long process that allows selected
young ladies to participate in enriching educational, cultural and
spiritual activities, culminating in their introduction to the community
in a beautiful formal event. The 2010 Cotillion was the sixth. The
2012 Cotillion is currently underway.

Father Daughter Dinner Dance
The Father Daughter Dinner Dance is designed to provide a special
evening of fun to enhance the relationship between fathers and daughters
in addition to building goodwill throughout the community and
supporting the scholarship efforts of Ivy Vine Charities, Incorporated.
Girls ages 4-13 are escorted by their father, grandfather, godfather, uncle or special male family friend who has a positive impact on her life. Presented as a very special dress up evening for fathers and daughters, the event is usually the first "date" night for girls, and who better to introduce them to how a young lady is to be treated and respected other than "father." There is a lot of excitement at home when the announcement of the event arrives. The excitement builds with selecting that special outfit, hair style, matching accessories, jewelry and the all important corsage. Dads also go all out to look their best, some dressing in tuxedos, former military attire or that special suit.
During the evening each girl is crowned with a tiara by her father and the parade of princesses begins with Stevie Wonder's, "Isn't She Lovely". Dinner is served followed by dancing. Girls get to see that dads also know how to have fun. The last dance of the evening is to Luther Vandross' song "Dance With My Father." When the evening ends, each girl is given a small bag of trinkets along with a small box of desserts to carry home to share with mother as they talk about the special evening with dad.
